After the brain experiences a traumatic insult or neurological event a person can have visual consequences among other challenges. Common problems include:
- Double vision
- Intermittent blur
- Headaches
- Inability to sustain concentration when attempting to read
- Loss of place while reading
- Distractibility when central or peripheral motion is present
- Pain or discomfort upon converging eyes
- Loss of vision to one side
- Generalized decreased visual awareness or constricted fields
- Poor judgment of depth
- Motor and gait dysfunctions to name a few.

- Cerebral vascular accidents (CVA)
- Cerebral palsy (CP)
- Parkinson’s disease
- Autism
- Multiple sclerosis
- Diabetic Neuropathies
- Visual field loss

- Tracking and scanning problems
- Inability to sustain fixation or focus
- Loss of central vision
Even mild concussions, a fall off a ladder or down stairs, or a seemingly “minor” car, motorcycle or bicycle accident can cause vision issues. See a vision specialist to treat any eye health concerns and also see a neuro-optometrist to treat functional vision issued.
Generally, you do not need a referral to be seen at our office, especially if you are insured by “Original” Medicare or a BlueCross BlueShield plan. However, you may call your insurance provider to be certain.
Insurance may pay for a portion of a neuro-optometry evaluation. Workman’s compensation or auto insurance companies need to approve treatment before scheduling. Call our office and your insurance company to minimize confusion and try to maximize coverage for your treatment.
Our office provides optometric vision therapy to build or rebuild vision skills and visual processing that may have been affected due to eye disease or accident. Many vision problems can be rehabilitated when detected and treated early.
Many insurance companies limit or exclude coverage for vision therapy. Please call your insurance company for benefit information. We can provide a letter of medical necessity for pre-determination of vision therapy services after you have been evaluated at our office.
